Volunteered during Bookbind to Unwind at the FIMS Graduate Library: a project to support collection development and literature in institutional libraries. Special interest in readers’ advisories and information behaviour (completed an individual study regarding cross-media reader advisories and a survey of contemporary media discovery websites)

2011 – 2016

Honors Bachelors of Arts, Western University

Entered Western University with a Western Scholarship and Faculty of Arts and Humanities Entrance Scholarship and later went on to win Judge’s Choice in the Alfred Poynt Award in Poetry. Spent the last two years of study on the Dean’s Honor List and achieved an Honors Specialization in Creative Writing and English Language and Literature with a Minor in Comparative Literature and Culture.

Awarded the “Coach’s Choice” Award in Cross Country in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 as well as MVP in Cross Country in 2011. Received Undergraduate Award for “Fashion and Creative Expression” in 2010, and graduated with honours.

Children’s Services Clerk, Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre

Creating and hosting library programming for youth, collection maintenance (acquisition and weeding), cataloguing, working the front desk, community outreach, as well as event planning and organizing. Must efficiently multitask and be self-motivated.

Children’s Service Student Co-op, Medicine Hat Public Library

Through Western University’s MLIS Co-op program, assisted full-time Medicine Hat Public Library employees in creating and developing programming for youth (aged infant to teen). Independently and collaboratively hosted storytimes for various age groups (infant to primary school aged) as well as other programming (i.e. poetry for tweens and “campfire jamborees”). Carried out the duties and responsibilities of a front desk youth services librarian, answering patrons’ questions in person and over the phone while informing them of age-appropriate programming and performing reader advisory.

Worked in pairs practising safety and security during daily operations. Resolved conflicts with disgruntled offenders by de-escalating tension at the point of contact. Ensured through offences’ documentation resulted in no refunded tickets during my tenure.

The top five local spoken word artists represented London, Ontario in a national poetry slam.

Organizing Committee Member, London Open Mic Poetry

A London Ontario collective focused on celebrating local poets as well as organizing and promoting events to raise awareness about the local poetry scene under the guidance of Stan Burfield. Assisted in hosting its monthly event, tending to the book table, signing in open mic participants, setting up equipment, taking donations, and other activities. For the 2016 Fall Term, acted as a Course Supervisor in association with Western University for “Canadian Literature, Creative, and the Local” to build a website to appeal to a youth audience in an attempt to diversify LOMP audience. I also organized two offshoot events in association with LOMP: a Children’s Poetry Workshop through London Children’s Museum on 15 October 2016 and a “Guerilla Poetry” event, which involved working with the Chapters bookstore on Wharncliffe to “surprise” people with poetry inside the bookstore on 2 July 2016.
